5 Easy Tips for Environmentally Conscious Traveling

Our ecosystem is in crisis and the only thing that can save it is the collective effort of all people on Earth. Every part of your life can (and should!) be eco-friendly, and honestly, it’s not that hard. See for yourself: check out 5 easy tips for eco-friendly traveling in this article.

  • Don’t pack a lot

You don’t need to be a physicist to know that every extra pound of luggage requires more jet fuel. Pack only the necessities — you probably won’t need that extra t-shirt anyway.

  • Take public transport

It is one of the easiest and yet, overlooked tips for an eco-friendlier lifestyle. Doesn’t matter if it’s a road to the airport or a voyage to a local market — embark on a bus ride, enjoy the views and save tons of money on a cab.

  • Enjoy local produce

No sense in coming all the way to southeast Asia and eating McDonald’s, right? That works in your home country too — food transportation contributes massively to your carbon footprint, so when buying local food, you do not only support your local farmers but also reduce your carbon footprint.

  • Act in a hotel as you would at home

While you won’t get a bill for a long shower in a hotel, freshwater is never infinite. Cut on long showers and don’t forget to turn off the TV and air conditioning when you leave your hotel suite.

  • Refill your water bottles instead of buying

Tourists have a lot of problems with recycling plastic bottles overseas — sometimes this practice just isn’t developed enough. A lot of hotels in Asia have water filters that allow you to refill your water bottles with fresh purified water so you can save on bottled water and cut on plastic.
